Terms & conditions

The tool is free, runs in your browser, and is provided as it is. The clause that matters most is the one about verification: automated redaction is best-effort, and the decision to share a log stays yours.

In effect since

1. Agreement

By using Logs Sanitizer at this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the tool. Where you use it in the course of employment, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms on behalf of that organisation.

2. What the service is

Logs Sanitizer is a free, browser-based tool that detects and replaces sensitive values in log files. All processing happens on your own device; we operate no service that receives, stores, or processes the content you paste. There is no account to create, nothing to pay for, and no service level of any kind. We may change, restrict, or withdraw the tool at any time without notice.

3. Automated redaction is best-effort — you must verify the output

This is the most important term here, so it is stated plainly. Detection relies on patterns, checksums, and entropy scoring. That approach is effective, and it is not exhaustive. In particular:

  • It can miss sensitive data — a bespoke token format, a secret spelled in an unusual way, an identifier that means something only inside your organisation, or information that is sensitive because of context rather than shape.
  • It can replace too much, altering values that were never sensitive and that you needed.
  • At its default sensitivity it deliberately leaves internal identifiers readable, because removing them usually makes a log useless. Those identifiers may still be capable of re-identifying a person when combined with other data.

You are therefore responsible for reviewing the output before you disclose it to anyone. Use the diff and the mapping table for exactly that. No result produced by this tool should be treated as a guarantee that a log is safe to publish.

4. It is not compliance advice

Presets named after the GDPR, PCI DSS, and HIPAA are engineering starting points named after the concerns they address. They are not legal advice, not a certification, and not a representation that any obligation under those or any other regime has been satisfied. Whether a particular disclosure is lawful depends on your data and your circumstances, which only you can assess. Take professional advice where that matters.

5. A cleaned log is not an undo

If a live credential appeared in a log, it must be treated as compromised and rotated at its source. Sanitizing a copy protects the copy you are about to share; it does nothing about the original exposure, wherever else that log has already been written, copied, or shipped.

6. Your responsibilities

  • You must have the right to process any data you put into the tool, and you must comply with the law and with any duty of confidentiality that applies to it.
  • You are responsible for the consequences of anything you choose to share.
  • Your settings, custom rules, and salt are stored in your browser only. Keeping a backup, using the export function, is your responsibility; we cannot recover them.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the tool to process data you obtained unlawfully, or to help conceal the origin of such data;
  • attempt to interfere with the site, or to probe, scan, or overload the infrastructure that serves it, other than by responsibly reporting a vulnerability to us;
  • misrepresent the tool's output — for instance, presenting a sanitized log as certified, audited, or guaranteed free of sensitive data.

8. Intellectual property

The site, its design, its text, and the software that runs it belong to Dipesh Kumar and are protected by copyright. You may use the tool for its intended purpose, including commercially, and the output you produce is yours. Nothing here grants you a licence to copy, redistribute, or create derivative works from the site or its source, and no trade mark rights are granted.

9. No warranty

The tool is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the tool will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will identify every piece of sensitive data in any given input.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dipesh Kumar will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary loss, nor for any loss of profit, revenue, data, goodwill, or reputation, nor for any regulatory fine, arising out of or connected with your use of the tool — including any disclosure of sensitive data that the tool did not detect. Because the tool is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to use it, which is nothing, or the minimum sum the applicable law does not permit us to exclude.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify Dipesh Kumar against claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your use of the tool in breach of these terms or of applicable law.

12. Privacy

How the site handles data — which is, in short, that it does not collect any — is described in theprivacy policy, which forms part of these terms.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated. When the substance changes, the effective date at the top of this page changes with it, and continuing to use the tool after that date means you accept the revised terms.

14. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, it is to be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions continue in full force.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.

16. Contact
